Kent & Rachel Schuetz
Ribberfest 2017 would like to extend a warm welcome to KCBS Representatives Kent & Rachel Schuetz (pronounced “sheets”) to our 18th Illinois State Championship Competition.
“We joined KCBS almost by accident when Kent’s dad decided that he wanted to take a judging class and convinced Kent to join him for the day” according to Rachel. “It was a father and son fathers day weekend outing”. Kent’s dad, Wayne, is a certified Master judge that has judged nearly 100 contests and still judges at several events every year.
The Schuetz’ have been involved with KCBS for 9 years. They have a team, Continental Barbecue Co., and for the past 7 years have been competing in 2-7 contests annually. “We have been contest Representatives now for 5 years, and we participate in 20 to 25 contests a year in one capacity or another” says Kent.
Outside of the BBQ world, Kent is in food sales with a specially food service company out of Indianapolis while Rachel is in human resources for Hitachi Cable America.
The Schuetz family also includes 7 year old Morgan and 8 year old Sebastion. From Rachel, “They’ve grown up in the BBQ world, so they have become quite the barbecue aficionados, and are our most honest and critical judges. We look for them to start perfecting their skills as cooks in Kids Q’s soon.” In addition to a love of all things BBQ, they are both active in 4-H, sports, dance, and Taekwondo.
The Ribberfest team is looking forward to getting to know the Shuetz’, and we hope our contestants and judges will have the opportunity to do the same!
